Summertime Energy Saving Tips

Higher electric bills go with summer in the Southwest. However, you can save money while also reducing carbon pollution with some very simple steps.

In early morning hours, when the outdoor temperature is lower, open doors and windows combined with ceiling fans to precool your home. Try a setting on your thermostat just 1 degree warmer than your typical setting. Close blinds and curtains in unused rooms, or when leaving the house.

Plant trees on the south or west side to cool by both transpiration (similar to how misters work) as well as shade. Raise your thermostat when away from home, or invest in a smart thermostat.

Use a sun oven, outdoor grill, microwave, crockpot, or toaster oven to avoid heating up the kitchen.
