Recycling Plastics Program

Please be aware that major changes are coming to the Ward 6 Recycling Plastics Program.

WHEN: Starting Monday, July 1st!

WHY: Tucson has been so good at participating, that the Ward 6 partner ByFusion has been inundated with more material than they can process. So, Hefty Renew has come in as a partner.

WHAT: Starting July 1st, only plastics in an Orange Recycling Hefty bag will be accepted, both at the St Francis collection point (the black trash can by Room 50 ) or at the 5 orange dumpsters around Tucson. See the detailed list of the 5 locations and a detailed list of accepted items in the link below.

Some changes to highlight:

Hefty orange bag: any plastic with #4,#5, #6 recycling arrows, most foam items (like egg cartons, etc.). No blister packaging, toothpaste/ointment tubes, unclean items, foil lining.

Blue bin: #1, #2, #5 plastics larger than a baseball.

When in doubt, throw it out (better to landfill a few items than contaminate a full load.)

WHERE: If possible, bring your orange Hefty bags to one of the 5 Tucson locations in the link below. If you are unable to do that, leave your orange bag at the black trash can by Room 50, and the Green Team will continue to volunteer to collect and deliver these weekly to those locations.

WHO: Only specific Fry’s and Walmart's carry the Hefty orange bags (see the link below), or they can be ordered online from Target.

And of course minimize the plastic of any kind in your life whenever possible!

Thanks for caring for our common home!

The Green Team
